The Minister of Culture and Sport, José Guirao, will present the Gold Medal of Merit for the Fine Arts next Monday, July 23 at 12:00 p.m., to singer, composer and actress Gloria Estefan at the Teatro Real, according to the Ministry of Culture and Sport.
With this presentation "an express wish of the honoree is fulfilled," who due to circumstances beyond her control was unable to receive her Medal at the ceremony last February that was presided over by the kings at the Pompidou Museum in Málaga.
On this occasion, taking advantage of a visit to Madrid by the singer and her husband, Emilio Estefan, the minister will present her with this award, with which the Ministry of Culture honors people and entities that have excelled in the field of artistic and cultural creation.
Considered the 'mother of Latin pop,' Gloria Estefan has won, among others, seven Grammy Awards, has a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame and the President of the United States presented her with the Medal of Freedom of the country in 2015. Similarly, she is one of the musical artists with the highest sales, with more than 100 million records sold worldwide.
