Cuban triple jumper Andy Hechavarría won yesterday at the Grand Prix Ciudad de Valencia, a bronze category event of the World Athletics Indoor Tour.
He prevailed with a jump of 16.43 meters on his fifth attempt, with a sequence of 15.33; 16.02; 16.42; 16.25; the winning stretch, and 14.66 at the end.
Senegalese Amath Faye (16.19) and Spaniard Eneko Carrascal (16.15) followed him.
Long jumpers Hayla González and Alejandro Parada finished in third place, unable to improve their marks from last week.
Hayla landed at 6.30 meters, with two fouls, and jumps of 5.95, 6.15 and 6.20. Parada stretched to 7.66 in the first round, followed by three fouls, repeated his initial mark, and closed with 7.51.
Among the women, first place went to local Irati Mitxelena (6.48), and second to Cypriot Filippa Fotopoulou (6.37). Among the men, the hosts dominated with Jaime Guerra (8.04) and Eusebio Cáceres (7.70).
Today, triple jumper Lázaro Martínez will compete in Metz, France; high jumper Luis Enrique Zayas in Hustopece; and sprinter Reynaldo Espinosa in the Orlen Cup, Torun, Poland.
