Painter Flora Fong was awarded this Wednesday morning the National Prize for Plastic Arts, the most important award given in Cuba for a lifetime of work dedicated to the visual arts.

A jury made up of renowned artists and specialists highlighted the solidity and projection of her pictorial work, linked to the essences of Cuban culture.

Particularly notable have been the bridges toward Asian traditions, stemming from Flora's ancestry. The jury president, Alberto Lescay, who was awarded the prize last year, emphasized that these links integrate Cuban cultural fabric.

The prize also recognizes Flora Fong's work in teaching, as a mentor to several generations of artists in the national education system.

At a press meeting, after the jury session, Lescay considered that the pool of candidates for the National Prize for Plastic Arts is very rich. On this occasion, almost twenty candidacies were evaluated, all with undeniable merit.
