At the age of 94, Osmany Cienfuegos Gorriarán died this Saturday, a man who from a very young age was linked to the revolutionary struggle. Born on February 4, 1931, he studied Architecture and confronted Batista's tyranny, for which he suffered imprisonment and torture. He had to go into exile in Mexico, where he became actively and directly involved in the activities of the 26th of July Movement.

When the Revolution triumphed, he was appointed Minister of Public Works, later of Construction, and carried out multiple tasks under the direction of the Commander in Chief.

As Secretary General of the Tricontinental and OSPAAAL, he accompanied Fidel and Che in supporting the national liberation movements of Latin America and Africa.

He fought at Playa Girón and in 1968 took over the direction of the Sierra del Rosario Plan, leading the project that gave rise to the Las Terrazas community. He was for several years a member of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Cuba, member of the Political Bureau, of the State Council and deputy to the National Assembly of People's Power, as well as secretary of the Council of Ministers. Later he was minister and founder of the Ministry of Tourism, and vice president of the Council of Ministers.

As his brother Camilo expressed in 1956, Osmany was «a great Cuban».
