Raúl Taladrid, founder of Icaic, died in Cuba

The Cuban Institute of Cinematographic Art and Industry expressed its condolences to the family members of Raúl Taladrid, a member of Icaic's founding core, who passed away on September 12 in Havana at the age of 87.

According to a press release, Taladrid, along with his wife Araceli Herrero, represented essential pieces for the launch and operation of the first cultural institution founded after the triumph of the Revolution on January 1, 1959.

From his position as president, he exercised decisive functions in the sphere of new Cuban cinema production, an area in which he displayed an innate work capacity, considerable organizational skills, professionalism and personal initiative.

These qualities led to Icaic's president, Alfredo Guevara, delegating diverse responsibilities to him over 14 years as a man of his absolute confidence and loyalty.

Among his multiple responsibilities, Taladrid played a leading role in obtaining copies to maintain the country's film programming in the 1970s, as well as serving as vice president of Icaic until 1973, according to the information.
