The renowned producer Ezequiel García Trápaga, to whom the 2025 National Television Award was granted just days ago, passed away this Thursday at the age of 85. The sad news was shared from the X account of the Institute of Information and Social Communication (ICS), where the death of the recognized Cuban Television professional was mourned.

The First Secretary of the Central Committee of the Party and President of the Republic, Miguel Díaz-Canel Bermúdez, from his account on that social network, offered condolences to family and friends and expressed the dedication, until the last moment, to TVC and the Revolution of this colleague “with whom I had a very good relationship during our time in the UJC”, he noted.

Alfonso Noya, president of the ICS, described him in that same space as a “true revolutionary, faithful to his principles, an example of dedication and commitment to TVC, to Cuba and to the Revolution”.

A long career spanning 63 years as a worker at ICRT characterized the life of García Trápaga, who began there as a cleaning assistant with a third-grade education level, and due to his responsibility and determination, would go on to occupy other positions, including general technical warehouse assistant, and later the responsibility of Warehouse Chief.

He would later be transferred to the Video-Tape and Kinescope department where he learned to operate the first two SONY VTR machines that were donated by UNESCO for the recording and transmission of educational telecasts at different levels. In the department he was in charge of recording television programs as well as political events in which Commander in Chief Fidel Castro Ruz spoke. He eventually graduated with a degree in Social Sciences.

He was also Head of the Operational Groups Department, Head of the Production Department of Tele Rebelde Channel, and Director of Political Events and Special Events at TVC.

For his work he received recognition from Fidel himself and was worthy of the Replica of the Machete of Máximo Gómez, for his outstanding work in publicizing the tasks and missions of the Revolutionary Armed Forces (FAR).
