This Friday, March 3rd, the prominent Cuban journalist, radio broadcaster, television host and screenwriter Julio Alberto Batista Delgado passed away at the age of 87. One of the most recognized voices in radio and television in our country, he was the first to give voice to the unforgettable ICAIC Latinoamericano News Program.
Born on February 5, 1935, the Cubaperiodistas portal describes him as "an extraordinary master of the Cuban press, especially of radio, he is a humble innovative man of journalistic genres in this medium, being considered a precursor of reporting and radio-documentary"
Julio Batista Delgado was born on February 5, 1936 at Central Chaparra, Las Tunas; he studied at the School of Dramatic Art and began his radio career in August 1954.
During most of his working life, his main workplace was Radio Progreso, where he created and directed highly popular programs such as Punto de vista, La Cuba nuestra de cada día, Cuba en el Mundo, Pensar en nosotros, among others.
His extraordinary professional career was marked by a profound devotion to the Cuban National Hero, José Martí, about whom he created a program dedicated to spreading details about his life.
The recognitions such as Hero of Labor of the Republic of Cuba, José Martí National Journalism Prize 1994 and National Radio Prize 2003, among many others, validate him as one of the most important figures in our media and a badge of the Radio Progreso station, to which he dedicated much of his life.
