In the early hours of September 9, Colonel of the Reserve Eugenio Suárez Pérez died in Havana at the age of 81. He joined the ranks of the Eastern Army early on; he participated in the struggle against bandits, in political work and teaching in different institutions of the FAR. He pursued higher political and military studies and a doctorate in the former Union of Soviet Socialist Republics.
In 1990 he founded Editorial Verde Olivo. He directed several publications, among them, the magazines Verde Olivo, Cuba Socialista and Cinco Palmas. At the time of his death he was director of the Office of Historical Affairs of the Presidency of the Republic and was a member of the National Board of the Association of Combatants of the Cuban Revolution.
He conducted research for more than two decades and, at the time of his death, was dedicated to projects on the thought, life and work of Comandante en Jefe Fidel Castro Ruz and General of the Army Raúl Castro Ruz.
Author of more than ten literary works and texts of a historical nature, some in co-authorship with his dear companion Acela Caner Román. He published numerous articles in national newspapers and magazines.
For services rendered to the Party and the Revolution he received various decorations and recognitions, among them, the Replica of the Machete of Generalísimo Máximo Gómez and the Distinction for National Culture.
