The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Cuba deeply regrets the death on April 29 of our colleague Juan Sánchez Monroe.
He graduated in History from Lomonosov State University of Moscow and obtained a Master's degree in History of Western and Southern Slavs, and achieved the degree of Doctor in History of Diplomacy and International Relations from the Moscow Diplomatic Academy.
He worked at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs for more than four decades, holding various responsibilities in domestic and foreign service. Between 1965 and 2006, he served as specialist and head of the USSR Department and Deputy Director General of the Cuban Association of the United Nations (ACNU). He completed missions in several countries of the former socialist bloc such as the USSR and Poland and also in Mongolia. He was Ambassador to Slovakia and to Serbia and Montenegro.
In 2006 he joined the teaching profession as Professor at the Higher Institute of International Relations (ISRI) and in 2017 he became Full Professor.
Sánchez Monroe was also a founder of the Association of Young Rebels.
