Cuban judo is in mourning. On Sunday, one of its figures died suddenly, who, although no longer active, achieved an important career while belonging to Cuba's national women's judo team.
Victim of a heart attack, Maricet Espinosa died at age 34.
"La Mole," as Maricet was known, lived outside of Cuba and had undergone several cosmetic surgeries, which influenced the tragic outcome, according to the Cubalite portal.
The judoka was a Pan American champion on two occasions (Costa Rica 2013 and Ecuador 2014), runner-up in Havana 2016, and competed in the Rio-2016 Olympic Games, always in the 63 kg category.
Condolences to her family and loved ones.
