Cuban Rower Ángel Fournier Dies at 34 from Heart Attack

Cuban athlete Ángel Fournier passed away on March 16, 2023 due to a heart attack. Fournier was 34 years old and was considered the greatest Cuban rower in history and a glory of national sport.

Fournier excelled in the single sculls category, in which he won three medals at World Championships: silver in Chungju 2013 and Sarasota 2017, and bronze in Amsterdam 2014. He was also a four-time Pan American champion in Guadalajara 2011, Toronto 2015 and Lima 2019, and an Olympic finalist in London 2012 and Rio 2016.

The Cuban rower had requested to leave the national team in October 2020 and had settled in the United States with his family.
