Iraida Malberti Cabrera, screenwriter and director of radio, film and television and a person dedicated to artistic work with children, passed away in the early morning of June 16, 2018 in Cuba.
Together with her sister, actress Sarita Malberti, and her sons Carlos Alberto, Juan Carlos and José Carlos, they formed a family that worked on various projects, recognized for their quality and for having left a memorable mark on audiovisual creation for children or about children.
Iraida will be remembered for having directed television series such as Y dice una mariposa… or Cuando yo sea grande. She co-directed the feature film Viva Cuba with her son Juan Carlos, and has also been a fundamental part of the La Colmenita project directed by Carlos Alberto Cremata.
About children, she said in an interview given in September 2017 to CubaDebate: "Children don't like being talked down to, I get along very well with them, I almost speak their language. Through the years, experience has taught me a lot. People ask me 'what method do you follow?', there is no single method for them, what works with one has no effect whatsoever with the other."
