The news is confirmed this Saturday through social media where they say goodbye to Hilda Moré, the daughter of legendary Cuban musician Benny Moré.
Born like her father in Santa Isabel de las Lajas, Cienfuegos, Hilda lived until her death in the La Cumbre neighborhood, in the Havana municipality of San Miguel del Padrón and always promoted Benny's legacy in Cuban culture. "We only lived together for seven years, he brought me to live with him in Havana the same day I turned 12 years old, and he died when I was 19, but they were beautiful years, intense, full of love," she stated on one occasion to Sputnik magazine.
According to reports, Hilda died on Friday in Havana at the age of 77, after losing her battle against osteosarcoma, a type of bone cancer that begins in the cells that form the bones.
Hilda always led the tributes that are held annually to celebrate the work of the Barbarian of Rhythm. Her father never ceased to be present in her life and in her relationship with Cuban culture. Several years ago she played the role of Benny's mother in the radio novel Elige tú que canto yo, by journalist Román Villotch.
In 2019 Hilda received the Estrella del Siglo award that the Latin Institute of Music gave to her father.
Benny Moré had seven children from different marriages. He is considered one of the greatest stars of Cuban music of all time. Self-taught, among his many songs that marked the musical history of the island are "Bonito y Sabroso", "Como Fue", "Santa Isabel de Las Lajas", among many others.
Benny died in a Havana hospital on February 19, 1963 from cirrhosis of the liver resulting from years of alcohol addiction.
