A folk artist, an actress greatly loved and respected in Cuba: Lázara Cruz Pérez Ávila or, simply as she was known in the world of art, Cruz Pérez, passed away this Tuesday in Havana.
On May 3rd, social media was remembering Crucita's birthday, the remarkable actress who was born in the sugar mill village of Central Morón (today Ciro Redondo, Ciego de Ávila), which at that time belonged to Camagüey.
From the affection and respect of the people came the last virtual embrace for the Alicia of the adventures Los mambises or the Gypsy Cruz of the 1970s of the past century who forced the scriptwriter of the television program, due to the popular acceptance of her character, to extend her role and time on screen.
She also left her mark on the soap opera En fin, el mar and on the television series Rompiendo el silencio. This last program, directed by Rolando Chiong and Legna Pérez Cruzata, marked the most recent appearance of the renowned actress, in the chapter "Efugio" of the second season of the series and playing the character of Isabel.
"I worked tirelessly and never stopped in my thirst for knowledge," Crucita would say once. And so, tireless, devoted and immense, her Cuba will remember her.
