Prestigious Professor of Obstetrics and Gynecology DrC. Lemay Valdés Amador Dies in Havana

The full professor, consultant, senior researcher and researcher of merit, professor emeritus, Dr. C. Lemay Valdés Amador.

He graduated as a physician in 1964 and held various positions that brought prestige to the specialty of Obstetrics and Gynecology in Cuba and the world.

He was a member of the National Group of the specialty, director of the Cuban Journal of Obstetrics and Gynecology and Honorary Member of this Scientific Society, serving on its Board of Directors for many years.

Due to his constant dedication to study, the training of human resources, and interdisciplinary work, especially with the Institute of Endocrinology and Metabolic Diseases, our country owes the organization of the Central Service, a national reference center for diabetes and pregnancy at "Ramón González Coro" Hospital and its replication throughout our country.

Due to his work and that of the teams he organized, many Cuban families have achieved the birth of one or several children and the happiness of motherhood.

Some Biographical Data

Full-time Consultant Professor. He graduated as a physician in 1964 and as a first-degree specialist in Gynecology and Obstetrics in 1970. He was vice-director of teaching at the North and South Maternity Hospitals in Santiago de Cuba, where he completed his postgraduate medical service as a specialist.

Second head of the Maternal and Child Health Branch Program (PAMI) activity in comprehensive care for pregnant women with diabetes. Head of the central service for diabetes and pregnancy. "Ramón González Coro" Hospital. Member of the Scientific Degrees Commission of the I.S.C.M of Havana. Expert of the Maternal and Child Health Branch Program. President of the Scientific Council of "Ramón González Coro" Hospital and Member of the Scientific Council of the "Comandante Manuel Fajardo" Faculty.
Member of the National Advisory Commission on Biomedical Research "Maternal and Child Health" and of the Municipal Group of A.N.I.R.

Member of the Panel of Arbiters of Cuban Medical Journals. Member of the Editorial Board of the Cuban Journal of Obstetrics and Gynecology. Member of the Provincial and National Commissions on diabetes mellitus. Member of the National Commission for Research on diabetes mellitus. Member of the Hospital Evaluation Commission. Member of the Provincial Group of Obstetrics and Gynecology. Member of the State Commission for training in diabetic patient care.

Participant in oversight and assistance to the "Raúl Díaz Argüelles" University in Guinea Bissau. Member of the Commission for developing the postgraduate studies program in the Republic of South Yemen and responsible for the first graduation of the first five specialists in that country and the beginning of training for seven others. Senior Lecturer at Transkei University, Republic of South Africa.

Head of the Obstetrics and Gynecology services. He received recognition from the provincial Communist Party for health achievements during the special period, in 1991. Exemplary Worker, in 1991. Outstanding Municipal Innovator, in 1992. Prize at the VIII Forum of Science and Technology, in 1993, Gold Talent 3 stars from A.N.I.R., in 1994. He was awarded the "Manuel Fajardo Rivero" Distinction, in 1987. Master of Latin American Obstetrics and Gynecology by FLASOG, in 2005. Annual Vanguard of the contingent of higher education in the internationalist mission in Ethiopia, in 1985. Municipal and provincial vanguard of the Health Workers Union, in 1988. Best anirista of the municipality in 1990. He was awarded the "José Tey" Medal, granted by the State Council of the Republic of Cuba, in 1990.

Recognition as a main result at the level of ISCM of Havana and possible scientific-technical achievement in 1990. Best worker at the provincial level of the Health Workers Union and invited for this reason to speak at the "José Martí" Revolution Square Tribune on May First, 1990. National vanguard of work during the years 2003, 2004, 2005 and 2006.

He received recognition from the Rector of ISCM of Havana for updating the Obstetrics and Gynecology Protocols in 2007. Meritorious Professor in Dominican Republic in 1993. He held the "Frank País" Order of the First Degree, among other recognitions. He dedicated his life to Science and his specialty almost until his last breath.
