Alain Medina Naranjo, known as Dj Dark, died on Sunday, February 23 at age 37 in Havana due to a myocardial infarction.
Born in 1983, this DJ and electronic music producer was recognized as a pioneer in Cuba of drum&bass, a style that dominated his repertoire.
He also cultivated other genres such as Break Beat, Minimal, Electro House, Techno and Trip Hop, noted the Concert Music Center website, and participated in the most important events dedicated to electronic music in Cuba, such as Rotilla and Eyeife.
His performances were characterized by the fusion and experimentation between styles and by the passion that he brought to each show. For nearly five years he was a DJ in the rap group Doble Filo, together with Edgar González and Yrak Saenz Orta.
Dj Dark was part of the Ecuadorian production company Global Unity Movement, took his music to several countries and shared the stage with international DJs such as Americans Jamie Jones, Lee Foss and Germans Steve Bug and Tiefschwarz and British Mr.C and Adulnaper.
For several years he was the DJ at Bar Roma, in Havana Vieja, where he brought together a large audience.
His death has shaken Cuban DJs and producers and in general artists from various fields.
His Doble Filo bandmate, the rapper and DJ, dedicated a heartfelt tribute to him on his Facebook profile.
