Dies in Cuba a participant of the historic Olympic bronze medal of Cuban basketball, Franklin Standard Johnson

Last October 7, 2021, the unfortunate news of the death of the distinguished basketball player and coach Franklin Standard Johnson was made public.

Johnson was born in Havana in 1947, and distinguished himself as a member of the Cuban team that won the bronze medal at the Munich-1972 Olympic Games.

According to Jit, he had also participated in the summer event of Mexico-1968 and in the Pan American Games in Cali, Colombia, in 1971, where the Cuban team secured the bronze.

As a coach he worked at the Espa Provincial Manuel Permuy and at the Eide Mártires de Barbados, both in Havana, as well as in the management of the Capitalinos teams in the Superior League.

Cuban men's basketball loses one of the participants in the best result in the history of this sport, the remembered bronze from the Munich 1972 Olympic Games.
