In the early morning of December 18, 2023, Dr. Mario Acevedo Martínez passed away in La Habana at the age of 76.
Dr. Acevedo had an extensive political and professional career in the field of health.
As a young revolutionary, he participated in multiple tasks of economic and social development of the country, served as a literacy instructor, and fulfilled other responsibilities in the Union of Communist Youth.
He graduated as a Doctor of Medicine in 1969, completed his residency in Orthopedic Surgery and Traumatology at Calixto García Hospital, and subsequently provided his services as a specialist at Vladímir Ilich Lenin Hospital in Holguín province until 1978, when he was promoted to professional work with the Communist Party of Cuba. In 1985 he was assigned the task of Head of the Medical Mission in Angola.
Upon his return, he continued in party work as a staff member of the Central Committee of the Party, where he held different responsibilities until 2004.
Dr. Acevedo was Director of Personnel Development at the Ministry of Public Health. During that time he took on the direction of the magazine "Infodir", a specialized publication for health administrators, a task to which he dedicated himself completely and with great dedication until his death.
He received several distinctions, among which stands out the Certificate of Recognition for 25 years of service to the Party.
His constant concern for the formation of values in the new generation of Cuban health professionals left a mark that will endure in the daily work of the National Health System.
