Prominent historian Rolando Rodríguez García dies

On the afternoon of Saturday, April 6, historian Rolando Rodríguez García passed away in Havana, winner of the National Prize in History (2008) and in Social Sciences and Humanities (2007).

A graduate in Law, he studied Philosophy and was a founding professor of the Department of Philosophy at the University of Havana.

He taught and directed the Department of Philosophy and History at the University of Havana, and was appointed director of Ediciones Revolucionarias.

In 1967, he founded and presided over the Cuban Institute of the Book, and in 1976 was appointed vice minister of Culture and president of the Editorial Board of that institution.

In 1981, he moved to the Office of the Council of Ministers as head of the social affairs area and, later, was appointed its coordinator.

At the time of his death, he was working as a researcher at the Fidel Castro Ruz Center, an institution he founded in 2021.

He wrote more than twenty books and received important national recognitions.
