Cuban actor Carlos Quintas passes away

On the night of August 24, the distinguished actor Carlos Quintas passed away at the age of 83.

Carlos Hernández Quintas had an extensive career in radio, television, theater, and film.

He was born on November 4, 1941 in Santiago de Cuba.

He began his career in 1959 at the Radio Hernández station in Santiago de Cuba as a host, reciter, and in leading roles in popular radio soap operas.

In 1961, he studied at the Academy of Dramatic Art of Oriente and was a founder of the Dramatic Ensemble of Oriente. Among his notable theatrical works are:
Contigo pan y cebolla.
Los invasores.
Santiago 57, presented at the First Latin American Theater Festival of Havana.
And La invasión, at the Second Latin American Theater Festival of Havana.

In 1967, he moved to Havana and worked at stations such as Radio Progreso, CMQ, and Radio Rebelde.

On National Television, he stood out for his participation in the series Los mambises, Juan Quinquín en Pueblo Mocho, El Halcón, and Los comandos del silencio from the Adventures program.

Also in the TV soap operas El pagador de promesas, Café Habana, La última mujer and el próximo combate, and in police series such as Tras las Huellas.

Likewise in humorous programs: Vivir del cuento, A otro con ese cuento, and La descarga.

And in film and short films from the International Film School of San Antonio de los Baños.

Furthermore, he was an artistic director of shows for more than 40 years, during which he conducted various national tours with different cultural institutions.


He received various awards and recognitions, including:

· ACTUAR Award for Lifetime Achievement 2019, awarded by the Artistic Agency of Performing Arts ACTUAR.
· Artist of Merit of Radio and Television and Small Screen Award of Television.
- Raúl Gómez García Medal.
· Founding Diploma of the Cuban Institute of Radio and Television.
· Seal of Laureate of the National Culture Union for his contribution to Cuban culture.

Carlos Quintas will be remembered for his acting versatility and his ability to interpret characters in diverse genres.
