Dr. Luz Merino Acosta, Professor Emerita of the University of Havana, Passes Away

On the night of September 30th, Dr. Luz Merino Acosta passed away, Doctor of Sciences in Art and Bachelor of Arts History from the University of Havana. Full Professor since 1989 and Professor Emerita of the Center for Advanced Studies.

From 1966 to the present, she was a professor in the Department of Art History of the Faculty of Arts and Letters.

A distinguished educator, specialist in Research Methodology, dedicated for several decades to the study of Cuban art and particularly art criticism.

She taught various undergraduate and graduate courses and lectures. She participated in numerous international events held in Cuba and taught courses and lectures at universities in France, Spain, Honduras, Puerto Rico, and El Salvador. She has several publications in books and prominent journals.

Throughout her professional career, she held various teaching and management positions. She worked in the Art Department of the José Martí National Library and directed the Art Department of the Faculty of Arts and Letters at the University of Havana, where she served as Vice Dean of Research and Graduate Studies, and functioned as Technical Sub-Director of the National Museum of Fine Arts.

Likewise, she was a member of UNEAC, the Cuban sections of the International Council of Museums, and the International Association of Art Critics.
