One of the lead vocalists of the Karachi orchestra, the popular singer Dagoberto Planos Despaigne, passed away last week in Santiago de Cuba, at the age of 64, victim of complications from liver cirrhosis.

Dagoberto would turn 65 in the coming month of June and since 1982 had been part of the very popular Karachi orchestra.

The artist's death occurred this morning, approximately at 8:00 a.m., at the Saturnino Lora Provincial Hospital, where he was admitted for his liver ailment and where he received the best and careful attention from specialists, but was unable to overcome the severity of his health condition, according to what Fernando Álvarez Caula, director of "Karachi," told "Sierra Maestra."

Almost all of the most popular songs of this well-known Santiago orchestra have among their voices that of Dagoberto Planos, which is why his death constitutes a hard blow for the group in particular, and in general for the culture of Santiago de Cuba and the country.

This information is developing, as Álvarez Caula was heading to the "Saturnino Lora" at this time to be with the family of the popular vocalist.
