Cuban writer and screenwriter Senel Paz won the Ernest Hemingway Literature Prize 2020 today, announced during the third and final day of the XVIII International Colloquium dedicated to the American writer.
The recognition, which is awarded for trajectory in literature and the arts in general, was announced through the YouTube channel by representatives of the International Historical Literary Movement based in the United States.
According to the President of the Jury, Pedro Pablo Pérez, when sanitary conditions permit, the organization will bring the trophy to Havana to present it to the author of the short story El lobo, el bosque y el hombre nuevo, from which the screenplay for the renowned film 'Fresa y Chocolate' emerged.
Paz was also screenwriter for other emblematic films of Cuban cinematography such as 'Una novia para David' and 'Adorables mentiras' and boasts a commendable trajectory in the advisory of cinematic dramaturgy within and outside Cuba.
Among his literary works are El niño aquel (1980), El rey en el jardín (1983), Los muchachos se divierten (1989), Las hermanas (1993), No le digas que la quieres (2004) and El cielo con Diamante (2007).
