The "Zarapico" Cultural Distinction Awarded to Master Cecilio Tieles

The "Zarapico," the highest cultural distinction granted by the Government in Villa Clara to personalities and institutions that have contributed to culture, was presented Wednesday night to pianist, musicologist and researcher, Doctor of Sciences Cecilio Tieles Ferrer, in recognition of his extraordinary merits in favor of Cuban heritage.

In making this decision, the Provincial Assembly of People's Power in Villa Clara took into account Master Tieles Ferrer's contribution to the culture of the nation, who has also distinguished himself in the defense of Cuban musical heritage and national identity.

Likewise, it highlights that the virtuoso musician has contributed to the formative processes of artistic education, in which the regional piano competition Amado Touza has played an extraordinary role; in addition to donating several copies of his own documentary collection and family heritage to the Funds of the Musical Research Group of the territory.

The member of the Central Committee and first secretary of the Provincial Committee of the Party in Villa Clara, Osnay Miguel Colina, together with the Governor, Alberto López Díaz, presented this high recognition, a ceremony that took place at the House of Culture "Juan Marinello," in Santa Clara.
