A transgender woman of Cuban origin was elected to occupy an important position in Colombia, official sources reported.
Charlotte Schneider Callejas assumed her new position last Tuesday as regional director of the Department of Social Prosperity in Bogotá, an entity dedicated to designing, coordinating and implementing public policies for poverty reduction and social equity.
"Welcome Charlotte Schneider Callejas as regional director for Bogotá. Activist for the rights of women, LGBTI sectors and ethnic groups. Specialist in Feminist and Gender Studies from the National University of Colombia, with more than 30 years of professional experience in Cuba and Colombia," the entity expressed on Twitter.
Charlotte is a biochemical engineer, a graduate of the Faculty of Biology at the University of Havana.
She completed several specializations in feminist and gender studies at the Faculty of Human Sciences at the National University of Colombia, is a social activist and defender of the rights of women and the LGBTI community.
She is also a defender of Peace Processes in various platforms, collectives and organizations at national and international levels.
Charlotte has worked in the public and private sectors, and has been linked with different actors in civil society.
She has experience in active mobility (urban cycling, walking, etc.), gender, road safety, personal security, citizen participation, communication, universal accessibility and labor participation.
