For the first time, a woman assumes the presidency of the Union of Writers and Artists of Cuba (Uneac). She is musicologist Martha Bonet de la Cruz, who previously held the position of first vice president of the important professional organization.

This was announced this Thursday during the National Council of the organization, which met at the Palacio de las Convenciones in the capital.

According to the Uneac website, this was the last Council meeting before the Congress, so the schedule of assemblies in all provinces, associations and sections was defined.

Regarding Luis Morlote Rivas, outgoing president of the organization, Polanco Fuentes praised his dedicated work at the helm of Uneac and the prestige he has gained as a creator in Cuban radio and television.

Likewise, he reported that Morlote Rivas has now been promoted as an official in the auxiliary structure of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Cuba for ideological work.

The honorary president of Uneac, Miguel Barnet, also recognized the work and qualities of Morlote, who, as he commented, always maintains close ties with writers and artists as a leader.

At the professional meeting it was also announced that journalist and filmmaker Magda Resik will now hold the position of first vice president of Uneac, and visual artist Lesbia Vent Dumois will be vice president.
