Cuban singer-songwriter Frank Delgado will begin a tour through Spain on Saturday in Sodupa, Basque Country, with a day of solidarity with Cuba, and will also perform concerts in Madrid, Catalonia and Andalusia, organizers announced today.
Prior to the singer-songwriter's first performance in Sodupa, an exhibition opening, a popular lunch and the talk "Cuba: present and future" are planned, reported the Spanish digital media CubaInformación.
Along with Santiago Feliú, Carlos Varela and Gerardo Alfonso, Frank Delgado is one of the most recognized exponents of the second generation of what is called the new Cuban trova, also known as the "Generation of the Moles". He has performed solo concerts in more than twenty countries, the source notes.
After Sodupa, Delgado (Consolación del Sur, Pinar del Río, 1960) will perform in other towns in the Basque region on this musical tour coordinated by Casa de la Bombilla Verde, an emblematic trova and culture venue located in the Vedado neighborhood of Havana.
In Euskal Herria the artist will also perform at Klaret Antzokia in Balmaseda, Ondarroa, Usurbil, Orereta, Gernika, Zarautz and will close his performances in the Basque Country at Kafe Antzokia in Bilbao. He will share the stage with local groups such as Aldapeko Basque Latin Jazz and Keu Agirretxea, CubaInformación added.
In October he will perform in Madrid on the 4th and 22nd. Subsequently, he travels to Andalusia where he will perform in Málaga on the 18th; in Cádiz on the 19th; in Huelva on the 20th; and in Seville on the 21st. Finally, he will perform on November 4th at the Centre Artesà Tradicionarius (CAT) in Barcelona.
This tour is an initiative of Casa de la Bombilla Verde, a cultural space founded in Havana dedicated to promoting Cuban trova, and which maintains strong ties with Basque culture.
Fermín Muguruza, Nogen, Keu Agirretxea, Inés Osinaga, among other Basque artists who have visited the island in recent years, have performed at that venue.
Delgado performed for the first time in Euskal Herria in 1993 as a guest of Silvio Rodríguez, and three years later both performed at the Velódromo de Anoeta.
Also in Spain is young singer and radio and television host Annie Garcés, accompanied by guitarist Eduardo Corcho, who performed last night in Valencia, Spain, as part of a tour of four other Spanish cities, in which she will showcase her repertoire of new trova and her children's music creations.
Garcés and Corcho will also perform at the Fiesta de Mundo Obrero, a popular festival organized by the Spanish Communist Party on September 29 and 30, closing on October 1st in the municipality of Rivas-Vaciamadrid in the Madrid region.
