The Unicornio seal of Producciones Abdala presented the most recent album by Cuban saxophonist César López and his band, in which he pays tribute to the jazz band format.
The release, titled César López y Habana Ensemble Jazz Band, proposes through its nine tracks a journey through genres of Cuban music such as son, danzón, cha cha chá, mambo and bolero.
López dedicated the production to the acclaimed Cuban pianist Chucho Valdés and to the legendary band Irakere, of which he was a part in the early days of his artistic career.
To the 'great Chucho Valdés, forever in my heart. To him and to Irakere I dedicate this recording. I only hope you enjoy it as much as we did', the artist noted in the CD's liner notes.
The songwriting and music production were handled by López, while for the arrangements he relied on musicians Joaquín Betancourt and Jorge Aragón Jr.
For this occasion, the percussionist Yaroldy Abreu, saxophonist Germán Velazco, drummer Ruy Adrian López-Nussa and flutist Orlando Valle 'Maraca', among other renowned instrumentalists from the island, accompanied the jazz musician as guests.
López, considered one of the main exponents of Latin jazz, has performed in prestigious international venues and shared stages with figures such as Herbie Hancock, Wayne Shorter, Michel Camilo and Gladys Knight.
