Cuban pitcher Odrisamer Despaigne will be with the KT Wiz in the upcoming season of the Korean Professional Baseball League, after receiving a new contract for the sum of 1.35 million dollars.

The amount that the former pitcher of the Industriales teams will receive will have the following breakdown: 1.1 million dollars will be received as salary plus signing bonuses. Meanwhile, the remaining 250 thousand will go into his pocket as performance incentives.

Despaigne stood out in the past season with the team that again contracted his services. The right-hander made a total of 33 starts, in which he achieved 13 victories and suffered 10 losses.

On the other hand, he displayed excellent command over rival batters, providing 21 quality starts to his organization. Odrisamer worked 188 and two-thirds innings, in which he allowed 71 earned runs and left an excellent earned run average of 3.39.

Likewise, in his first appearance in the KBO postseason, Despaigne faced fellow Cuban Ariel Miranda in an excellent pitching duel. In that matchup, the Havana native pitched for five and two-thirds innings without allowing earned runs, with two hits and four strikeouts issued.

That performance served the Cuban to obtain the MVP of the game, with a cash prize equivalent to 1000 dollars and placed his team one victory away from the championship.

The Caribbean native, who also played for six seasons in the Major Leagues, pitching for the San Diego Padres, the Baltimore Orioles, the Miami Marlins, the Los Angeles Angels and the Chicago White Sox, in addition to some participation in Winter Leagues, has two seasons pitching in the KBO, in which he accumulates 28 wins with 18 losses, 3.88 earned run average, 1.40 WHIP and a total of 317 strikeouts in 396.1 innings of work, throughout his 67 starts.
