The 40th edition of the Montreal Jazz Festival in Canada will take place from June 26 to July 6. Cuba will be represented by the Diva of Buena Vista Social Club, Omara Portuondo, who will perform on Thursday the 27th at the Maisonneuve Theater, Palace of the Arts.
A day later, at the Maison Simphonique de Montreal, Chucho Valdés will perform, currently considered one of the most important figures in world jazz.
The other representative from the Island, young pianist Roberto Fonseca, will have a prominent role in this edition, performing at Gesú on Saturday the 29th with Swiss trumpeter Erik Truffaz, on Sunday the 30th solo, and on Monday, July 1st with American disc jockey Joe Claussell.
This festival is recognized as the most important festival of its kind in the world, and this time will host 150 concerts featuring legendary figures in the genre and blues, who will alternate performances with young talents.
Among the artists scheduled for the occasion are also George Benson, Alan Parsons, Peter Frampton, Madeleine Peyroux, Norah Jones, Bebel Gilberto, Dianne Reeves, Joshua Redman, John Pizzarelli, Stacey Kent, Juan Carmona, Melissa Aldana and Rafael Zaldívar.
