The premiere of the DVD 'Jazz con Guaguancó' by pianist Alejandro Falcón took place last night at the International Jazz Plaza Festival 2021 in Cuba, which this year is holding its sessions online, the artist confirmed.

The new album by the musician born in this western city in 1981 pays homage to the 69th anniversary of Los Muñequitos de Matanzas, a renowned Cuban rumba group that has traveled around the entire world, an institution of pride and a bastion of national culture.

Co-produced by the record labels Egrem and BisMusic, as well as by the National Center for Popular Music, this concert was broadcast on the Clave television channel, Facebook and Cuban music platforms.

Falcón clarified to the press that the show, a collaborative effort, features guests and varied pieces.

'We play the piece Matancero Soy; we invited María Victoria Rodríguez (a folk music performer); and I also incorporate a song by my father, David Falcón, performed by Mayito Rivera, accompanied by Los Muñequitos and my keyboard,' he added.

Also, sings Telmary Díaz –he noted– with a classic from the group, 'in tribute to the greatness possessed by these rumberos glories of Cuban music and there are jazz musicians. Among the latter, he cited Maikel González on trumpet, Emir Santacruz on saxophone, Ruy López-Nussa on drums and Edgar Martínez on tumbadoras, 'as well as other talents who have joined in'.

Falcón is a distinguished Cuban musician with an extensive professional career, despite his youth, and is considered one of the best pianists and composers of his generation.
