Orchestra conductor Iván Andrés del Prado, one of the most outstanding in Cuba and Latin America, received an emotional birthday surprise. The members of the Filarmónica de Chihuahua played 'Las Mañanitas' to celebrate the maestro known for his extensive repertoire and versatility in symphonic music, opera and ballet.
On the YouTube channel of Periódico Cubano, a video has been published of the moment when the members of that Mexican orchestra performed the traditional song with their instruments.
Del Prado, described as an energetic and passionate person, is conductor of the Mississauga Symphony Orchestra (MSYO) in Alabama; and also adjunct professor and assistant conductor at the University of Southern Mississippi.
Likewise, he is in charge of the artistic direction of the Premier Orchestral Institute International Festival, organized by the Symphony Orchestra of that U.S. state. The Cuban is also artistic and musical director of the Filarmónica del Estado de Chihuahua (OFECH).
Maestro del Prado has conducted important orchestras around the world, including the National Symphony Orchestra of Cuba, the Gran Teatro de La Habana, the Baja California Orchestra and the Chamber Orchestra of La Habana, as well as symphonic ensembles in Europe, Asia, the United States and Latin America.
His talent has been enjoyed at the Staatkapelle Berlin and at national symphony orchestras based in Madrid, the United States, Costa Rica and the Dominican Republic.
He has also conducted the Filarmónica de México, OFUNAM, Orquesta Sinfónica Nacional, Orquesta del Teatro de Bellas Artes and Orquesta Sinfónica de Xalapa.
In the opera field, Del Prado has conducted operas, operettas and zarzuelas with the National Opera of Cuba, the Pro-Lírica Association of Peru, the "Rodrigo Prats" Lyric Theater Company and the National Opera of Mexico.
In addition, he has led the Pacific Symphony Orchestra, Mississippi Symphony Orchestra, Filarmónica de Gran Canaria and the Virginia Symphony Orchestra, among others.
He has worked with important figures such as José Carreras, Luigi Alba and Victoria de los Ángeles. During his career of more than twenty years, he has had the opportunity to collaborate with Maestro Richard Bonynge and Daniel Barenboim at the Deutchstaatoper Berlín.
