Cuban pianist and composer Roberto Fonseca presented his new work "Yesun" last Sunday, November 28, at the Teatro Principal de Mahón as part of the fifth edition of the Alternailla jazz festival.
Fonseca captivated with his music influenced by funk, rap, blues, reggae and electronic rhythms an engaged audience that filled the Mahón amphitheater in a concert lasting almost two and a half hours. He was accompanied on stage by Ruly Herrera on drums and Yandy Martínez on double bass.
This is the second time the Cuban has visited Menorca in recent months, as last July he accompanied Omara Portuondo in a performance included in the Splendid Festival, an event organized by the Teatro Principal de Mahón.
Fonseca is an artist with recognized international credentials, reaching in 2014 one of the highlights of his career when he was nominated for best Latin jazz album for his work "Yo" at the Grammy Awards.
Since 2001 he has been part of Buena Vista Social Club, sharing the spotlight with greats of Cuban music such as Ibrahim Ferrer, Cachaíto, Rubén González, Guajiro Mirabal, Manuel Galbán and Omara Portuondo.
The performance in Mahón will not be his only appearance in the Balearic Islands. On Saturday the 6th he will present his new album at the Teatro Principal de Palma.
