Cuban-Italian Andy Díaz dominates in triple jump at the Copernicus Cup in Torun, Poland

Cuban naturalized by Italy, Andy Díaz, managed to reach the top of the podium during the Copernicus Cup, held in the city of Torun, Poland, in the gold circuit of indoor track at World Athletics.

Díaz Hernández achieved a triple jump mark of 17.61 meters, which allowed him to set a competition record. With that jump, the Cuban also achieved his best personal mark and positioned himself as the new leader of the year in this event.

The triple jumper achieved a mark of 17.25 meters on his first jump in Torun and on the second he reached the mark with which he took the victory, forgoing the remaining attempts.

Although he won by a wide margin over his rivals, Italian Tiago Pereira was the one who came closest to his mark by jumping 17.02, and third place was taken by Algerian Yaser Triki with 16.93.

Previously, the island-born athlete signed another good performance at the Miramas Métropole Meet, with silver category at the World Athletics Indoor.

Andy Díaz took the triple at the final of the Diamond League 2023 held in Eugene with a jump of 17.43 meters, establishing himself as a two-time Diamond League champion in the triple jump specialty.
