Veteran Cuban boxer Guillermo Rigondeaux will return to the ring on June 9 at Casino Jai Alai in the city of Miami.
The fight is included in the program organized by American promoter Don King. At the event, former world champion Adrien Broner and Bill Hutchinson will face off. Cuban boxer Adlay "El Puli" Rodríguez will also fight, according to Warriors Boxing announced on Twitter.
"Rigondeaux will return on June 9 as a special attraction on the Adrien Broner-Bill Hutchinson card at Casino Miami Jai-Alai! Adlay "El Puli" Rodríguez is also on the card! Don't miss it!", announced Warriors Boxing.
It has not yet been revealed who Rigondeaux's opponent will be. If he wins, at 42 years old, he could move closer to a world title fight at 118 pounds.
On this matter, the boxer said in a recent interview with the newspaper El Nuevo Herald: "You know I'm with the best: with Luisito de Cubas and Luis de Cubas. They are the best in the boxing business and we are moving to do things the right way, but yes, the goal is to be champion again''.
Guillermo Rigondeaux, from Santiago de Cuba, has two Olympic titles, achieved in Sydney 2000 and Athens 2004 in the bantamweight category.
The boxer attempted to defect from the Cuban delegation during the Pan American Games in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, in 2007. He finally managed to leave the Island in 2009. Since that year he has lived in the United States.
During his successful career in Cuba he was national champion on seven occasions. As an amateur he fought 247 bouts, winning 243 with four losses. In professional boxing he has reigned in the World Boxing Association (WBA).
Guillermo Rigondeaux is considered one of the best pound-for-pound boxers, according to Ring magazine.
