The scholar and historian Eduardo Torres Cuevas was appointed as Director of the Office of the Martiano Program in place of intellectual Abel Prieto Jiménez, who will assume leadership of Casa de las Américas.

"Due to Prieto Jiménez's arrival at Casa, following the death last July of the prominent intellectual and poet Roberto Fernández Retamar, who had directed it since 1986, and in the effort to maintain the strength achieved in the projection of Martiano institutions, it was decided to appoint Torres Cuevas as the new director of the program," states the note published by the Cubarte portal.

In replacement of his position as Director of the José Martí National Library and the national system of public libraries, art critic, editor and essayist Omar Valiño was promoted, who until now served as Director of the Tablas Alarcos Publishing House.

According to the digital site of Cuba's Ministry of Culture, such decisions will contribute to the strengthening of institutions dedicated to culture in the country.
