Eduardo Antonio, 'El Divo de Placetas,' turns heads at the Billboard Latin Music Awards with a look he says came from a Versace dream

Eduardo Antonio, known as "El Divo de Placetas," was among the stars on the blue carpet at the 2026 Billboard Latin Music Awards, held Thursday, October 22, at Miami's James L. Knight Center. Billboard included him in its official carpet photo gallery, billed as "El Divo de Cuba."

True to form, the singer chose an extravagant outfit that did not go unnoticed, drawing comments and tongue-in-cheek comparisons, including one to a beekeeper's suit, as Periódico de Cuba reported.

The artist himself explained where the idea came from: he said he dreamed about the late Italian designer Gianni Versace, who died in 1997, and that the design was born in that dream. The story, told with his usual theatrical flair, added to the buzz around his appearance.

Miami-based Eduardo Antonio has long built a public image around theatrics and eye-catching wardrobe, and he routinely turns red carpets into part of the show.
