Cuban doctor Bárbaro Gutiérrez Cabrera was elected vice president of the Medical and Anti-Doping Committee of the International Boxing Association (AIBA), according to an announcement made to Jit by Alberto Puig, president of the Cuban Boxing Federation.
"The decision has taken into account the professionalism of a specialist with several decades of dedication to our sport," said Puig, who highlighted Gutiérrez's work as a mainstay within the boxing family in Cuba.
"I have done nothing but dedicate myself to work that I enjoy, aware that any personal merit will always be the result of the prestige of Cuban boxing and our sports medicine," the physician assured.
AIBA president Umar Kremiez stated that he is confident that, with his vast knowledge and experience, Gutiérrez will make an important contribution from his new responsibility.
