The acclaimed and exceptional Cuban singer Omara Portuondo arrived today in New York invited to the premiere of the musical Buena Vista Social Club on the Broadway circuit.

Portuondo, known precisely as "The Diva of Buena Vista Social Club", "The Great Lady of Cuban Son" and "The Sweetheart of Feeling", thanked on her Facebook profile the invitation that she considered a tribute to Cuban music and an early gift for her 95th birthday (Cayo Hueso, Havana, October 29, 1930).

The show, with a duration of two hours and 10 minutes, has been presented since February 21st, but its official premiere will be this Wednesday, March 19th at the Gerald Schoenfeld Theatre, at 236 West 45th Street in the theater district of Midtown Manhattan in this city.

The Buenavista Social Club was a music association from Cuba founded in 1932, from which the name of the group Buena Vista Social Club emerged, the debut album (September 16, 1997 and Grammy Award in 1998 for Best Latin Tropical Performance) and the 1999 documentary of the same name.

Omara, star of the group, has an extensive career that began when she sang for the first time at age 15, from then on she began the path of an already legendary woman endowed with a melodious, exuberant, pristine and unmistakable voice.

She has performed boleros, jazz, son and feeling, and her presence is in the records of important venues such as the Royal Opera House in London and the Latin Passion festival in Hong Kong.
