Cuban singer-songwriter Leoni Torres announced this week the Grammy nomination for his tribute album to Polo Montañez, "Canten", in the "Best Traditional Tropical Album" category.
"I feel honored that #Canten, a tribute to Polo Montañez and my Cuban roots, has been selected for consideration as 'Best Traditional Tropical Album' Thank you @recordingacademy", the singer wrote on his social media.
Immediately, Torres received hundreds of congratulations from his followers. "You deserve a Grammy nomination. Hard work is paying off. I'm supporting you to win the award", a user wrote to him.
Torres is also nominated for the Latin Grammy Awards that will take place on November 17 in Las Vegas, United States. For the same album "Canten", the Cuban musician will compete in the "Traditional Music" category.
The musician thanked the nomination this way: "What news my people. They just told me that we are nominated for the @latingrammys with "Canten", tribute to "Polo Montañez". Thanks to everyone who was part of that dream. Thank you Polo for your beautiful songs and to you the public for recognizing what we do. Long live Cuba", he wrote on his Instagram account.

Other Cubans were also nominated in this category such as Gonzalo Rubalcava and Aimée Nuviola, with "Gonzalo Rubalcava and Aimée Nuviola live in Marciac"; Septeto Nacional Ignacio Piñeiro, for "Gran Combo pa' rato", and Renecito Avich, for "Café con cariño".
In mid-November of last year, Torres was part of the Latin Grammy gala where he was also nominated with his previous album, "Alma Cubana".
"Here I am representing my country Cuba with a very beautiful traditional album. At the same time very happy for my colleagues who did win traditional tropical album for "Cha Cha Cha Homenaje a lo Tradicional" by the great @orquestaragon legend of our culture", said the performer.
