Cuban deputy Rolando González Patricio today assumed the presidency of the Latin American and Caribbean Parliament (Parlatino), following the end of the term of Argentine senator Silvia Giacoppo (2022-2023).
González Patricio, a doctor in Historical Sciences and a graduate in International Political Relations, has held high positions in the Directive Board of the regional legislative body as alternate president and secretary of commissions, according to the organization's website.
Parlatino, with permanent headquarters in Panamá, is made up of the congresses and national assemblies of 23 countries and has regional integration as its primary principle.
In 2024, the legislature will mark 60 years of its founding with the firm purpose of promoting cooperation between parliaments and the harmonization of laws among member nations.
