Digna Guerra, president of the XIII International Choir Festival CorHabana 2018, announced today that the event, which features an excellence program, will take place from June 26 to 30.
The director of the National Choir of Cuba said at a press conference that the event, organized by the National Center for Concert Music of the Cuban Institute of Music, will be dedicated to choral arrangement and to the 90th birthday anniversary of Electo Silva and the 80th of Roberto Valera.
She reported that 30 Cuban and foreign choral groups will perform and the venues will be the Covarrubias Hall of the National Theater of Cuba, the Minor Basilica of the Convent of San Francisco de Asís, the San Felipe Neri Oratory, and the Hispano-American Center of Culture, in this capital.
At the gala, which will take place on June 26 at 6:00 pm, at the Minor Basilica of the Convent of San Francisco de Asís, the National Choir of Cuba, the Professional Choir of Bayamo and the National Children's Choir, which celebrates two decades since its founding, will participate.
Other scheduled groups are the Entrevoces, Exaudi, and Vocal Leo chamber choirs, as well as Vocal Sampling, the Holguín Orpheon, the Polyphonic Choir of Pinar del Río, and the Male Choir Cantores Claudio Monterverdi, from Cienfuegos.
Also representations from Argentina, Costa Rica, Colombia, Mexico and the United States will perform at the event, which will conclude at the Covarrubias Hall of the National Theater of Cuba on the 30th with presentations of choral groups that will perform works by Conrado Monier, Roberto Valera and Electo Silva.
Precisely CorHabana pays special tribute to the masters Roberto Valera, composer and pedagogue, and to Electo Silva, considered the dean of choral music on the Island.
Among the invited guests are The Opera Workshop of the School of Music of Santa Bárbara de Heredia (Costa Rica), the Chamber Choir of the University of the Americas of Puebla (Mexico), the American soul choir The STARS, Sine Nomine Vocal, from Colombia, and the Coro Aldo Maccagno Franco, from Argentina.
Digna Guerra stated that three workshops on the specialty will be held, to be taught by María Adelaida Mejía (Colombia), Julio César Morales (Mexico) and Conrado Monier (Cuba).
The director of the National Choir of Cuba highlighted the presence of the Children's Choral Project of Los sitios, which brings together children living in that locality and the value of cultivating children in music as a way of providing them with the best virtues for the good of society.
