Visual artist Diana Balboa Hernández (Cienfuegos, August 4, 1945), inaugurated the exhibition Playing with the Future, a personal anthological exhibition of her most recent pictorial production with which she celebrates her 80th birthday and the 63rd anniversary of the Experimental Graphic Workshop of Havana (TEGH), of whose historical team she is a member—more than four decades in its ranks. This will be on August 1st, at 3 pm, at the TEGH.
With this group of pieces and engravings the creator bids farewell to her work in the visual arts, although not from its sphere. As she has expressed, any new exhibition to be held will draw from the wealth of works already created by her.
In statements to the press she said: "Art enthusiasts like myself are aware of playing with what we love, because human beings come to life playing, and learn to live playing," hence the name of the exhibition.
A prominent painter, draftsperson, engraver and ceramicist of self-taught training, Balboa has held more than 60 personal exhibitions and participated in more than 200 collective ones, both in Cuba and abroad. Some of her works are displayed in prestigious galleries in different countries and are also part of the Chapel of Man, in Ecuador.
With this exhibition closes the celebrations for the 63rd anniversary of the TEGH, founded on July 31, 1962, where Diana Balboa began in 1967 to create engravings, and the place where she has been happiest in her life, as she has confessed.
