Outstanding performance by Cuban Jasiel Rivero in Spanish basketball

The Cuban Jasiel Rivero achieved his highest rating in a Liga Endesa basketball game in Spain, with the 37 credits obtained today in his team Hereda San Pablo Burgos' success against Joventud Badalona, 95-78.

The Havana-born forward-center scored 25 points and obtained eight rebounds to accomplish the highest rating in his two-season career with the Burgos club in the second best basketball league in the world.

Rivero made nine of 12 two-point shots for an excellent 75% effectiveness, and also added seven points in nine free throws for 78%, according to the official statistics of matchday 16 of the tournament.

Those led by Joan Peñarroya reached ten wins at the Palau Municipal D'Esportes, in the Catalan town of Badalona, to remain in fifth place among 19 teams, whose top eight advance to the quarterfinals.

At the press conference following the game, the Caribbean player highlighted defense in the second half as the key to the victory against difficult opponents and direct rivals in the Copa del Rey standings, whose upcoming edition will be in Madrid in February with the top eight teams from the first round.

The Cuban now has 165 points in the campaign (14 appearances) for an average of 11.8; he has captured 76 rebounds and recorded 10 blocks.

His performance today makes him a candidate for MVP of the matchday. He is also waiting for the completion of matchday 11 (postponed games) on the upcoming January 4, before which he received a rating of 30 points against Movistar Estudiantes, his previous high.

Last October, Rivero participated with Burgos in winning the title in the Basketball Champion League of Europe, which gave him the pass to play with the representative of Asociación Atlética Quimsa of Argentina for the 2021 Intercontinental Cup of the Fiba.

That match will be played (single encounter) on February 6, 2021 at the Estadio Obras Sanitarias in Buenos Aires.
