The Real Academia Española (RAE) announced a commemorative edition dedicated to Cuba's National Hero and one of the most important Latin American writers in 19th-century Spanish literature: José Martí.
Martí in his universe. An anthology –the linguistic authority explains on its website– was also prepared by members of the Asociación de Academias de la Lengua Española (Asale), and includes all of Martí's poetry, as well as prose texts –articles, essays, speeches– that account for the author's dimension.
Added to this are texts by Nobel Prize winners Juan Ramón Jiménez and Gabriela Mistral, or by the greatest exponent of modernism, Rubén Darío, as well as full members of the academies such as Guillermo Díaz-Plaja (Real Academia Española), and Roberto Fernández Retamar, Roberto Méndez Martínez, Sergio O. Valdés Bernal and Marlen A. Domínguez (Academia Cubana de la Lengua).
The edition is completed with studies about Martí and his work, and includes a glossary and an onomastic index.
The collection of commemorative editions by the RAE and Asale aims at the recovery of emblematic titles of Spanish-language literature, and their publication is linked with celebrations related to the works themselves or their authors.
