The distinguished Cuban meteorologist, Doctor José Rubiera, received his medical discharge today, Saturday, September 12, after undergoing surgery, medical sources reported this Saturday.
According to a note published on the Facebook profile of the magazine Cubahora, the most popular of Cuban meteorologists was operated on last Tuesday for an angioplasty (stent placement) at the Institute of Cardiology and Cardiovascular Surgery.
Since then Cubans and the media have followed his progress closely.
Doctor Domingo Gómez Graham published on his Facebook profile a photo where he appears alongside Doctor Rubiera and his wife, outside the capital hospital, and accompanied it with the phrase "Professor Rubiera and his wife happy to be discharged from the hospital, but we must continue with the medical recommendations! We continue in the fight!".
In another image, the physician writes: "Fortunately Professor Rubiera has been discharged from the hospital, now to take care of himself!".
Admired for his performance over decades in providing meteorological information on national television, he was director of the National Forecasting Center of the Institute of Meteorology of Cuba.
He is vice president of the Hurricane Committee of the World Meteorological Organization in Region IV (North America, Central America and the Caribbean).
