Cuba once again has significant representation of artists among the nominees for the 25th edition of the Latin Grammy Awards, whose ceremony will be held next November 14 at the Kaseya Center in Miami.
Cuban singers and creators will represent the country's talent and sounds at the awards, the most prestigious in Latin music, and year after year several of their accolades end up in the hands of those from the island.
This time among the artists aspiring for the gramophone are Cimafunk and Monsieur Periné with their song "Catalina", who are competing for the Record of the Year award.
In the Song of the Year category, singer Daymé Arocena is nominated alongside Dominican Vicente García for "A fuego lento", a song included on the Cuban artist's latest album, titled 'Alkemi'.
The island has two nominations for Best Latin Jazz Album: First, Sammy Figueroa alongside Cubans Gonzalo Rubalcaba and Aymée Nuviola for "Searching For A Memory (Busco Tu Recuerdo)" and Gonzalo Rubalcaba with "Collab" alongside Hamilton De Holanda.
For his part, Cuban rapper Al2 El Aldeano is nominated alongside Vico C for Best Rap/Hip Hop Song for the track "Blam Blam" and the group Darumas, made up of Argentine Aldana Aguirre on bass, Cuban Ceci León on vocals and guitar, and vocalist Vedala Vilmond, born in Haiti and based in Chile, is competing for Best New Artist.
Fighting to win the Best Traditional Tropical Album award are three Cubans: Alex Cuba with 'Voces de mi familia', Yelsy Heredia with 'Los Mismos Negros' and Yeisy Rojas with 'A mis ancestros'.
Additionally, Cuban guitarist Renesito Avich and Rafael "Pollo" Brito are among the nominees for Best Tropical Song with "Baila y goza". Likewise, in this category are nominated composers Jorge Luis Piloto with "Hasta que aguante el cuerpo" and Miguel Yadam González Cárdenas alongside Jorge Luis Chacín and Fonseca for "Con Dinero y sin Dinero".
Continuing with the list we find the album "Celia Cruz En Vivo-100 Años de Azúcar", whose Cuban-American producers, designers and art directors Nelson Albareda, Kemelly Figueroa-Mouriz, Albertico Rodríguez and Omer Pardillo-Cid are competing in the Best Packaging of a Recording category.
Finally, there is Paquito D'Rivera, who is hoping to win the Best Contemporary Classical Composition/Work award for "Caribbean Berceuse", as well as Cuban-Canadian Hilario Durán, who is among the nominees for Best Arrangement for "Night In Tunisia".
