The Cuban Reinier Fiss represents today the Confederation of Football of the Association of the North, Central America and the Caribbean (Concacaf) among the candidates for the refereeing body of the 2021 Lithuania Futsal Men's World Cup.
According to the official page of the International Federation of Association Football (FIFA), the 33-year-old Cuban is part of a list of 13 nominations from the region alongside referees from the United States, Canada, Mexico, Costa Rica, El Salvador, Panama, Dominican Republic, and Guatemala.
From the total number of preselected candidates, the governing body will choose 38 referees and two substitutes to work at the Lithuania event, in a process of several months for the selection of those who will finally officiate in the tournament with venues in the cities of Kaunas, Klaipeda, and Vilnius between September 12 and October 3 next.
A native of the municipality of Florida in Camagüey, the Cuban was appointed as a FIFA referee in 2017 and throughout his career shows experience in several national tournaments, in addition to international participation in a CONCACAF club championship in Honduras in 2017.
Cuba had representation of its referees in several futsal world cups with the debut of Vladimir Masó, in the 2004 Taipei China edition; Antonio Álvarez in Brazil 2008 and Sergio Cabrera participated in the four-person group in the final of Thailand 2012 and in the tournament in Colombia in 2016.
