Cuban midfielder Marcel Hernández scored three goals last Saturday in Alajuelense's 5-1 victory over Pérez Zeledón in the 2021 Clausura Tournament of Costa Rica's first division football.
The Cuban scored his three goals at 71, 88, and 90 minutes to reach 11 goals, leading the league.
With 13 goals, Marcel was the top scorer of the 2020 Apertura Tournament, but with the Cartaginés team.
With that victory, Alajuelense —defending champions— remains the only undefeated team in the Tournament and now has a 10-point lead in first place.
In the first date of round 12, Guadalupe FC crushed Limón FC 7-1 away, with hat-tricks from Frank Zamora and Jossimar Pemberton, while Herediano defeated Sporting San José 2-1.
In addition to the Saprissa-Grecia match, the San Carlos-Jicaral matchup is scheduled. Monday will conclude this round with the Santos de Guápiles-Cartaginés challenge.
Due to the Covid-19 pandemic, the 2021 Clausura Tournament is being held with strict health measures, including playing behind closed doors.
The 12 participating teams will play 22 matches each, in two rounds of everyone against everyone in the regular stage. The top four will go to a semifinal and if the winner of the first phase wins in the second, they will be national champions.
Otherwise, the winners of each of the stages will determine in home-and-away matches who takes the Cup.
