Cuban Despaigne, protagonist with SoftBank in Japanese baseball

Despaigne batted 2-for-2, with a home run and two walks, and the Fukuoka team won four-to-zero, in a game in which his compatriot Yurisbel Gracial went 4-for-2, with one RBI. For the losers, Dominican Mel Rojas Jr. failed in an at-bat with a strikeout.

Meanwhile, fellow Cubans Dayán Viciedo and Ariel Martínez finished 3-for-1, but their Chunichi Dragons lost 0-3 against the Lotte Marines, thanks in large part to the excellent pitching performance by Dominican Enny Romero.

Romero allowed five hits without runs in eight innings of work, in which he struck out five batters from the Dragons lineup, and gave up one walk.

Following these results, SoftBank reaffirmed itself at the top of the Pacific League, with 34 wins and 23 losses, while the Marines are in fifth place, with a record of 27-32.

For their part, Chunichi is fourth in the Central League, also with 27-32; and the Tigers occupy last place, with 26-35.
